Advanced MPG/VCD options

When loading an mpeg, the control window appears as follows:

By selecting Plugin Options from the Options menu, you can get to the following window:

Here is a breakdown of the options:

VCD device - The device which the MPG plugin will access to get data when a request to open a VCD is made. Should be the device of your cdrom.
Use Software Bilinear Filter - Primarily of interest to those who don not have any supported method of hardware accelerated scaling and interpolation, but have a really fast system that can do scaling and filtering in software, providing a better image quality at the expense of system resources.
Scale image for fullscreen - The default Fullscreen method is to set the video resolution to match as closely as possible the resolution of the video being played back. This method puts the least strain on the system, but requires specific video modes for various video sizes to acheive a good effect. In addition, the video quality is most blocky. By selecting this, whatever scaling method is being used will be used to scale the video to the size of your desktop by default, switching video mode to maximum if not already that way.
Width/Height of scaled Fullscreen - Alternative video mode to use instead of maximum video mode for scaling fullscreen. The player will attempt to set this mode to scale video to. This can be useful, for example, if you want to use the software scaler or have a video card that doesn't scale to larger resolutions, providing a smaller value (i.e. 640x480) will provide a compromise between the quality of the maximum resolution and the performance of the video mode change. When left blank, the current desktop size is used. Unless you are using the software scaler, you will probably want to leave these fields blank.
Preserve aspect ratio in fullscreen - When fullscreening, the software will, by default, scale both the width and height to fit the entire screen, even if the width and height are scaled by different factors. Selecting this option will ensure that both are scaled by the same factor, leaving more of the screen black, but not distorting the image. This is not done by default, as most video files are created witha 4:3 aspect ratio, and most monitors fit this aspect ratio. However, a very popular resolution, 1280x1024, is not a 4:3 aspect ratio, bu a 5:4 aspect ratio. In this circumstance, the image may actually be more distorted witht his option enabled. The recommended way to go is to ensure than a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution will be used and enable this option, for the least distortion. Such Resolutions include:
- 320x240
- 400x300
- 512x384
- 640x480
- 800x600
- 1024x768
- 1152x864
- 1600x1200

Special controls

In addition to using the control window to perform various functions, there are a numnber of things that can be done to the playback window itself to control various aspects of playback. Here is a table of what can be done to the window and the results of doing so.
